Kyangala

After rains, I’d sit on my porch

to watch winged termites

flutter up from the ground. One day

Mutua joined me. We tuned

to the Sundowner show on my radio

and watched the termite squall.

After a while, Mutua said, ‘Simons

what is your philosophy of life?’

I had no idea but I was happy then

so I said, ‘I don’t have one,

what’s yours?’ Termites

flirted while he spoke, flittered

to the ground, like little specters,

like snow. The Beatles sang,

I want to hold your hand.
