His Lunette and Her Lacuna

Every full moon

The glass ballroom appears under the lake

His lunette can breathe underwater

Her lacuna is resurrected

They meet in his crypt.

Every full moon

His piano plays mellow sonatas

They dance away the night

They recount to each other

Her life above and his world beyond

They kiss

His fingers fractured from her craft

Her voice muted by his requital.

Every full moon

They reminisce about the night they met

She, a violinist on a platform,

Serenaded her audience,

A little moon under the real moon.

Months later...

He debuted with her music

Pensive, plaintive

His star was born

Hers stillborn.

Every full moon

They recall that moonless night

Their last encounter

She smiles when she remembers his rooms

Flecked with spurned notes

He brewed her the tea

That silenced her voice, her allegations

He practiced on his piano

Until she dropped its lid on him.

Every full moon

They recall their countless trysts

They courted for months

Until she broke her lacuna's heart

Created an empty space in her own

She regrets when she chose

Someone else as her intended.

Every full moon

She learns he stole her music

To requite for his unrequited love

He regrets when he chose

His stardom over his lunette.

This full moon

She laments over...

Time lost

Choices made

Hearts jilted

He howls

When his glass mausoleum shatters

And his lunette drowns.

This full moon

She enters his world

He swims to hers

They reunite when the moon sleeps and

The sun puts him out of his misery.

The next full moon

His lunette reunites with her lacuna.
